I just got a new machine from Dell but the image they installed on the hard drive is pre-registered to another company. Dell support gave me two options
1) Flatten and re-install everything (All software on the preloaded image is the same as what I ordered as far as I can tell and they did give me all the appropriate CD's)
2) Find a third party software application that can change the registry information.
The second option is my choice but I have not been able to find the appropriate 3rd party application. Any suggestions?
It came from dell with another companies information in it? I'd be sending it right back...that's used! Just restore it completely, its easy, takes about a half hour, and will be exactly like it has never been used before.
It is a clean image, nicely pre-configured with the only glitch that I object to being the registry is also preconfigured for the other company as the registered owner. There has got to be an easy way to change that part of the registry.
Goto Start - then Run and type regedit. With regedit open goto edit at the top then open Find. Type the company name in exactly. Check all the boxes and also match whole string only.(after the first find - press F3 for the next). At all the findings, modify to the name you want. Then close regedit and presto chango is is now yours.
