Hey, this is my second IO and I'm running into a little problem. It's a V3 with no goop but has the 4 cut IDE pins. I've made new connections and verified them with a meter. I replaced bios with known working wild pencil V5.40a. Powers up, I hear the drive init, but bios can't find it or the sandisk. This drive works perfect in my other V3 I did a while ago with goop. Any ideas why? With the drive unhooked it will see the sandisk, hooked up it sees neither.

I'd check the drives Master/Slave Settings....

Sounds like you've got two Masters, as you say it sees nothing when plugged in, but only the Sandisk with it taken out.

Cheers,

Yeah, but sandisk is slave and drive on my other IO shows as master just fine. Anybody know which pins on the cable are controlling this?

When you test this drive in your other machine, do you test the drive and ide cable all at once?

In all the previous cases the sandisk moved to the slave device if you had a HD onboard...the HD always defaults to master.

Is the IDE cable upside down?

In the BIOS do you have drive C and D set to AUTO?

Do you have boot sequence C only (sandisk still has image on it right?

It sounds like bad wiring if it disables the sandisk when you plug the HD in...and your bios is set up right.

Yeah, I tryed both the drive and cable, no go. I also tried another drive from GF's laptop that also works in the other IO I have. The cable is correct, I think you maybe right about the wiring. While I checked connections with each pin, I didn't check for a short. I have it set back to stock, so I'll have to try it again. I may try to solder wires from bottem this time but I'll have to clean off the epoxy they put on bottom of board there. The drive I'm working with I have already set up my other machine with win98 and has been well tested to work, so if there's nothing they did to the boards to keep them from recognizing the HD it has to be the wiring.
