Odd IO progelm with hard drive

Got a weird problem. I've had a hacked IO for 2 or 3 years now, great little machine. Anyway after a long list of mishaps I ended up buying a second unit, flashed Midori on it and except for not getting it to find the network, it works great.

I'm in the process of repairing the original unit now, the HD in it wouldn't spin up, but did when I hooked it to my PC. Bought a replacement that I used with the cable from the original IO to setup and flash the second unit. I then placed the cable and new HD back in the original unit but again the HD wont spin up. Checked voltage, 5V at the cable end into the HD, but other than that nothing. Screen reports missing boot device. I'm leaning toward a power supply problem, but I used the same power supply with the second unit, no problems, so now I think it may have to do with the voltage regulators on the original IO, maybe not enough current to spin up. For the heck of it I unpluged the modem ad the backlight on tthe screen to reduce the load but still nothing.

What I want to accomplish is to have 1 IO with a HD and the other just the Sandisk for quick web surfing. Since Midori is up and running on the second I planned to leave that one as is and use the HD in the original. That's not going to work, so now I'm trying to figure out how to flash the Sandisk in the original with out a working HD. Only option I can think of is to destroy my good HD cable and cut the power lines and feed it power from another source long enough to flash it and then I should be good. Problem is I don't want to destroy my cable, any other options anyone can think of?

Sounds like your HD is no longer set to active.

I don't think that's the problem, the Hd does not even spin up, it acts like it's dead.
