Hi,

I just bought an I-opener on ebay and will use it for my CNC machine (www.crankorgan.com) running TurboCNC (www.dakeng.com)a DOS program. Because of the timing of the stepper motors on the CNC machine, there is a need for a realtime OS, TurboCNC is run from DOS. I wish to make a ROM image of DOS and TurboCNC, I was wondering if anyone is using there I-opener with DOS on the sandisk?

Has anyone made a flash utility for QNX that would let me flash to the sandisk?

Is there anyone who is interested to help create a DOS ROM image with USB support?

Thanks Harry

I have not got a clue what DOS ROM is (what is it anyway), however, the USB support under DOS is starting to become a pet peeve of mine. With that said; panasonic has a download site in Japan (non-english) with a "Generic" USB DOS driver that seems to recognize a whole lot of stuff. If I can find the link again I will post it.

With that said, please keep us up to date with your progress on this project as I find this usage verrrry interesting.

Here is the story on the "miracle driver" from panasonic (can anybody explain how the inquirer site puts the red icon in the URL line and, if you are running netscape, on the navigator tab?). The links to the panasonic site are at the bottom but you will need to use something like babblefish to translate it into english. Note: In the zip file there is the standard ReadMe.txt file but it is also in Japanese so keep bablefish handy. Now with all that said I just came accross another site from the same author but at the bottom there is not only the links to the Panasonic site and the ftp site but also links to a local copy of the mhairudos driver and the whats it kxlrw40an.exe file (I forget what that one is for, so read the article). Now just to confuse the matter a little more here is another site that contains links to the motto hairu USB driver (plus a lot of others) but it also has a link to a translation of the ReadMe.txt file.

That is a very interesting CNC project you have going there, please keep us informed of how this works out.

Hi, I got the DOS USB driver up and working on my work computers, I have made a boot disk that loads the USB driver with the /w switch that stops the boot and asks you to insert you USB device into the USB port, then it contiues to boot and find my Lexar memory stick the assigns a drive letter to it. I just recieved the I-opener and will let you know how I do after it's all set up. But a pentium 200 with 32 megs ram and a 128 meg USB hdd should be a fast DOS box.

It works on the i-opener

The generic "any mass storage device" driver USBCD.SYS has made it possible for me to see my Hi-Val 6x4x6 USB CD-RW when booting off the sandisk using DOS.

CNCopener:

You may have an interest in my IOcnc creation, which uses a BDI installation of the Enhanced Machine Controller on a touch screen iOpener to run my homemade EMC controller using 4 Gecko drives with big-ass servos. I use it for a large 4-axis CNC table router I built for my business. It is s...w...e...e....t !

Email me if interested in more info., or if you need help with your machine.

The San Disk works just like a harddrive, you don't need a 'ROM Image' to put whatever you want on it. However, you'll need a BIOS that lets you boot a harddrive, in addition to a harddrive and the cables and adapters to use it.

LOL I was just about to ask some data to do the exact same thing... anyone checked if the parallel port on the i-opener was bi-directionnal?

Also, did you try using a USB floppy drive on the I-Opener? Since the DOS USB driver doesn't support hot-swap, it might be more appropriate for turbocnc.
