IO misidentifying my HD?

New MessageIO misidentifying my HD? (modified 1 times) matt83222

All of a sudden my IO identifies my Toshiba 2.4g hd as Toshiba xxxxx,,,,,,,,,,,,,, where xxxx is a jumble of letters, and the commas run to the right edge of the screen. I have the BIOS set to auto detect, as it has been for years. I can reboot and occasionally it will correctly identify the hd, but with the misidentification apparently the geometry got messed up and now the drive won't boot to OS (win 98se lite).

Question, is this a problem withe the BIOS (Wild Pencil) of the hard drive? I'm going to pull the drive and reformat it but there is little sense in doing this if it will just happen again. Any suggestions?
