Pardon me for putting something in the wrong spot, but... I Know you guys are Smart! I do believe, I've seen this Somewhere online!

my daughter, off to college, is trying to help her friend, fix a computer...

they seem to ONLY have a win 98 UPgrade CD ....

the Question.. HOW to do a clean install from this CD...

I have sent her info on fdisk, and formating.. but, I think, this CD is gonna Require another CD.. which, they don't have.. and, I could send, but, I think, its possible to get Around it, I just don't Remember, How to...

I also have a win 98 upgrade CD, it has the /win98 folder, so, I think ALL the needed files are THERE..

Thanks for any URLS or help!

Upgrade CD's need to look for a previous edition either on the hard drive or
on a CD or install floppy. This is programed into the setup files so don't
know if you can change it. Beg, borrow, or steal a W95 CD and your in.

My memory is a little fuzzy on this (it's been so long since I've done a hacked-up win98 install).

it's a little involved, but I think there's a configuration file on the installer cd-rom that can be hacked to instruct the installer to go into a different mode. I think it was a single integer value, and it would let you choose between Standard Install, OEM install, Upgrade Install, or even a "Non-Keyed" type of install.

Maybe one of the Registry-Hacks sites can provide more info..

but basically, you hack up this file, and burn a new installer cd-rom with this adjusted content, and you're golden..
