Please post about any luck you have had with hardware and the Meshap CD from locustworld.

Please include what version or "build" you are using and be as detailed as possible.

Please move other discussions to a new thread, thanks.

I have seen reports of the following hardware from the meshap mailing list:

Note that the Mesh CD version is different than the "build" version.

Siemens Wireless PCI Adapter Model SS1024 CD v06 and F08

Netgear 802.11b Wireless PCI Adapter Model MA311 CD v06 and F08

Zoomair PCMCIA works at build 21.

Corega PCIA-11 (a Prism II PCI adapter), works with Mesh CD 06.

Siemens SpeedStream SS1024 works at Mesh CD 06

Linksys WUSB11 v2.5 and v2.6 work with build 21. Note: v2.6 uses the new Atmel chipset, so other newer USB devices may work, please report back.

Linksys PCI PCMCIA card adapter (WDT11) and a linksys 802.11b PCMCIA card (WPC11 v2.5), worked at Mesh CD 05, broken at Mesh CD 06, no reports after this.

Netgear 401 wireless (at about build 21 I think)

Dlink DWL120 USB adapter, works at Build 21 RC 02

Not working or needs testing:

D-Link DWL-520+ Not working CD v06 and F08

Orinico Wavelan (PCMCIA Gold or Silver card + PCI adaptor) Not working CD v06 and F08

SMC2402 PCI card is a TI chip and not supported yet (as of build 22)

D-Link DWL-650 PCI card (not the "plus", the report was on rev A2) is 3V PCI 2.2 only card, which won't work in older motherboards. Tests were not done.

D-Link DWL-650 "plus" PCI card not working as of Mesh CD 06.

PCI->PCMCIA adaptor with a Prism 2 based card and the ricoh based PCI to PCMCIA convertor wasn't supported ad Mesh CD 06.

Linksys WMP11 v2 7 is brooktree chip, no go on Mesh CD 06

"orinoco card - this doesn't work - error from orinoco_setup when modprobing orinoco_cs" at build 21

Intel AnyPoint II at build 21

Misc:

Lee reports: "I've got the TI chip working with 2.4.18 mandrake, but not tried with
mesh box distor, the drivers work to a fashion but too well" - later e-mails show it's a binary only driver and won't work with mesh CD 06.

You may find some more wireless cards on linux info at http://www.linux-wlan.org

Thanks to all who posted reports to the list. It would be easier if you posted reports here from now on, what ever is easier for you.

From "Andy":

"I've had good rtesults with the Actiontec PCI card available at http://www.dabs.com and have documented hacking it at http://consume.andylaurence.co.uk/actiontec.shtml "

From "Niels":

"MeshAP bootable CD build 22 works fine on an IBM T23 laptop with a "IBM high rate wireless" adapter (Prism 2.5 based
modem/wireless combo on mini-PCI)

GUI works. We didn't have time to actually log in from the client but we
got the login-screen.

More testing will happen after theWiana registration comes through."

The Gateway/AOL Connected Touch Pad I-Appliance works with the meshap build 21 and 22, not the CD version, the direct binary build file. The GCT comes with a removable standard 32MB flash chip.

I simply un-compressed the image with bzip2, and dd it over from a mandrake laptop pcmcia to CF adaptor that comes up as hde.

dd if=build21.bin of=/mnt/hde bs=512

Reports say that "gemulator" for windows works for a writing CF.

It works with a Linksys USB adaptor v2.6 and connects to another meshnode and will connect to other wireless devices. Full GUI comes up.

The limitations at this time are no touchpad support, it won't use a USB keyboard or mouse, and doesn't see a D-Link 650 USB to ethernet adaptor (pegasus chip).

Any changes would have to be made to the build directly on another computer and then written to the CF and I don't *yet* know how to mount the build in the /mnt/ directory. I think it needs a offset or something.

It makes a great little node, and you can disconnect the backlight and LCD to save power. People have reported them to be under $150 on e-bay when you can find them.

Netgear MA101 Rev B USB adaptor, works at build 21 seems to use same drivers as the Linksys WUSB11
13dbm output power (20mW) (from spec page)
Seems to have less receive sensitivity than the WUSB11, it won't pick up distant stations that the linksys does from the same location.
WUSB11 specs are 15dbm (32mW) so the transmit is better (I didn't test that) the specs don't define a receive sensitivity.
The size is bigger and this unit won't fit within my 3 inch ABS plastic cheap waterproof enclosure.
