Any interest in RS-232 adapter PCBs?
Possible group buy of bare boards

After suffering through considerable frustration getting the connections sorted out, and a brush with Webpal-death when the adapter I was (which dangles loosely on a cable) using flopped into a short of the +5 supply, the idea of something that fits properly is looking more tempting.

AP Ciruits will want a base charge of about $55-60 (I need to find out the exact shipping cost), plus about $2.50-3.00 per board.

Even if we can't rally the 25 people needed to bring the final cost down to about $5 a pop, I might be able to panelize this board with another one I'm planning, so it may still be possible to do it at a not-too-painful price.

I think I also have a local surplus source for the header sockets needed to make it removable from the Webpal. I can even do kits, or assembled units, if there's a need for them.

Any takers?

I got my PC boards made by ExpressPCB as described on my webpage.

They charged $59 (now $62) including shipping for three panels.
Each panel contains 4 copies so you get 12 copies for $62. The
worst part is that you have to saw each panel into 4 pieces
to get the 4 individual boards.

I got most of the parts from Jameco and those part numbers
are included on the webpage.

Several people have asked if there were PC boards or
assembled units. However, I always thought the
hardest part was desoldering the pads on the webpal
board to put in the header so I wasn't sure if
someone who didn't want to solder a PC board would
be able to do the desoldering and install the
header successfully.

Take a look at

There is an offer for a free pc board design. Perhaps you can get some RS-232 boards and some other stuff done for free. :)
