Request to teknema...

New MessageRequest to teknema... (modified 0 times) ingenite
Profile
Here is my little chat with Teknema about getting possible documentation/dev tools for the webpal. Unfortunately it didn't work. Although I believe that maybe if we were either (1) nagged them about the issue or (2) someone e-mailed with a e-mail that was relatively close to this one only requesting info on the teknema internet TV instead of the webpal as I did. Maybe we would have better luck then. Hey I tried =)

Hi,
I'm not sure if this is the correct address to send this request to but if
it isn't please forward this to the correct address that this request
responds to. Recently a group of individuals and I have purchased a lot of
Newcom webpal systems. We found that newcom who was selling the webpal
device was actually manufactured by you. From what information I have found
it seems that newcom is no longer in business and I was unable to find any
information on your web site for the device. I was wondering if you have
any development software and/or the auto configuration server for the device or
if you have any documents or manuals pertaining to the device. Any
information at all or response is greatly appreciated in advance.
Thank you,
Benjamin J. Silvia

Hello Benjamin,
Yes, the webpal systems were originally supplied by Teknema, now RAVISENT
Technologies. Unfortunately, we are not able to support the product with
documentation, software, or manuals developed by Newcom. To the best of my
knowledge Newcom is no longer in business, however I have not worked with
them directly.

RAVISENT supplies reference designs, embedded solutions and contract
manufacturing of set top boxes and internet platforms to OEM customers. If
we are able to help you in this capacity we will be happy to oblige.

Regards,
Kate

Hello Kate,

Sorry to bother you again. Just one more question. Are you able to support
with documentation, software, or manuals developed by teknema? I'm sure we
would be able to port the tools over to the webpal system as the system
boards for each device is nearly identical. If a cost is involved I would be
willing to pay a reasonable one, although the group is only using
information for purposes of a hobby.
Thank you again,
Ben Silvia

Hello Ben,
Unfortunately the Webpal is materially different from the products that we
design and produce. I wish that I could help you, but I'm just not able to
do so.

what she says is, hm, little bit untrue :)
unless "materrially different" is some law expression, which me, myself and my lack of English knowledge can't get properly.

when i mailed teknema two months ago, on their web site there was a banner they sell upgrade simms for Newcom WebPal, not for Teknema box. it's true webpal is somewhat different but afaik teknema supported those branded versions. what is sure is that they proposed to sell me updated version of the bios (w/javascript support). for *newcom webpal*.

EnTerr,

Actually, it is a 2MB Flash SIMM. Version 2.2f will not fit on your current
1MB of Flash. With regards to further development, I regret to say that we
will not be able to help you. The WebPal is not our product, and thus the
support we offer is very limited.
