So I picked up one of these neat little toys for twenty bucks at the local surplus shop. I know it's slow. I know it's old. I know it's limited- that's why I want it. :P

I'm seasoned with linux so that's not an issue, although I do kinda like the built in graphical OS and the remote control capabilities present. It'd be fun just to be able to throw in an ethernet card and flash the rom with an upgraded web browser and go from there.

Yes, I know this isn't realistic. ;)

That being said, I'll have to flash linux on this beast and go from there- but I'm not 100% ready to take the plunge until I know there's useful applications waiting for me at the end of the flash tunnel... what's the status of hard drives on these beasts? Can I just forgo the hard drive and flash the rom with the linux kernal and the vnc client? Has anyone tried?

Having a VNC client would really be the most useful purpose for this little box.
