Webpal & a free ISP???

New MessageWebpal & a free ISP??? (modified 0 times) Capp
Has anyone had any luck using the webpal with a free ISP? I tried to use it with Freewwweb.com because they provide primary and secondary dns address' in the 95 set up instructions but I kept getting a log on error. Has anyone had better luck with this than me? Are there any other free ISP's that can be used by other OSs than Windows that may be able to be used with this unit? My for-pay ISP doesn't even offer primary and secondary address' for input- so I am unable to use it with the account that I am paying for!! Plus- it appears that it is too slowwwwwww to bother hacking- if it is hackable at all and it would make an ok i-appliance if I can get the pig working on my big screen!

I have tried freeatlast and it didn't seem to work with the WebPal.

Anybody else get a national freeISP service to work with their Webpal?

I hade to repeat myself but, has anyone used this device with a free ISP. I'm sure it would have worked with Freewwweb.com but they are no longer with us. I would like to give this to my brother-in-law to use if I can find a free ISP to use it with.

thanks

"Effective November 27, 2000, FreeAtLast will no longer offer free Internet access. Subscribers can still enjoy unlimited access, faxing, e-mail, and phone calling, for a flat fee of just $9.95 per month."

I have gotten my WebPal to dialin to MindSpring and Verizon.

Noname: Please post your connection settings for the webpal!

Specifically, what did you use for the CHAP entry?

I am getting CHAP errors when I try and dial in. Maybe I need to point it to the ip of the PPP server?????

Thanks

go to http://www.seniorsinfree.com/service.html and get a phone number

DNS1 216.126.128.40
DNS2 216.126.136.250

userid usapop@onfree.com
password infree

this actually connects you to the place where you would sign up for service; but that's really irrelevant since there seems to not be a timeout.

to see the ads and help this portal remain free visit http://seniorsinfree.myway.com/features/home/default.asp every time you log in

Some now call it "PayAtLast"... Myself, I like "FreeAtFirst". :)

I have heard of people using "RASspy" to grab dial-up-networking IDs and passwords from the free (banner) providers. Give it a look.

you are limited to 7 digit name because of
limit of the webpal input.
to get the password you will need a program
to convert your password over. NZPE.ZIP
has all the info in it.

I got it working, also use mailandnews.com
as my email server it is free and supports
IMAP, no slimit on the size of the mail box

I finally set up the Webpal on a dialup service.

Wow, it is a total piece of crap, buggy and slow. No wonder they went out of business.

I wish someone would post the updated firmware. :)
