GNU buildroot-webpal pulls in all the sources necessary to build a bootable cramfs for the WebPal

I have put together a buildroot-webpal for people to use in building the binary Flash image. The source is 2 meg, it runs under make and will pull in all sources (linux, busybox, etc), apply necessary patches and produce a rom-image.bin. The rom-image.bin can then be programmed into the Flash SIMM for a complete cramfs.

The page for this buildroot-webpal is at http://www.openhardware.net/webpal/

Enjoy!

TomW0001,

Wanted to check out your buildroot-webpal, but the link you
provided doesn't work?

You know, just some days it seems that the timing of events is just too wonderfull.... The next day after I posted this, the kernel of the server panic'ed and really mangled the filesystem of the drive. It is back up again, I am suspecting that Maxtor has some problems (big time) with their UDMA-100 stuff!

Tom,

Having problems booting your build-root.

I've build and installed the image, boot loads it
OK, decompress, runs, gets just past the:

VFS: Mounted root (cramfs filesystem) readonly

and then I get a:

Kernel panic: No init found. Try passing init= option to kernel

Looking at the image.param section seems OK:

readonly=1
parport=0x278,13
command=root=/dev/mtdblock init=/linuxrc video=acorn:dram:384k

any ideas?

Yeah, could be a couple things... I usually hang out on IRC at: /servchan irc.freenode.net 6667 #elinux , my handle is TomW. Why don't you look for me there and we'll try to narrow it down? First thing that I would try is to comment out the pivot root (both) parts of the linuxrc script. I have documented how to pivot root to a debian nfs / disk system on the wiki at: http://tuxscreen.net/wiki/view/pivot_root_to_debian-ARM , that may help you in lieu of hooking up with me on IRC.

BTW, that is a generic chat channel for developers interested in ARM + embedding linux. There are a couple of other fellows over there that have been using my buildroot-webpal on their units.
