websurfer video quality
opinions on the t.v. video quality

New Messagewebsurfer video quality (modified 0 times) foureyes
yes, my eyes aren't as sharp as they used to be. i would like you to post your opinion of the quality of the video on television sets which you have connected to the websurfer. i have a pretty good quality panasonic super flat screen set (s-video and a claimed resolution of 700 lines) which i hope will suffice, since i want a websurfer as an additional net terminal for the family and don't want to spend more for a monitor. i am also curious about the quality with lesser sets (we have plenty of this kind). if you do use a t.v., what resolution can you setup for acceptable surfing? many thanks for your opinions or advice. ( i couldn't talk the salesman at compusa to even setup the websurfer for a demo even though it was inches from a t.v. set hooked up to a tivo)

I've had some odd problems with video too. I can set it up with my old 17" monitor to run at 800x600 just fine, but it refuses to go past 640x480 on my 50" Toshiba HDTV. I'm using the S-Video out, though the cable ain't the greatest. Any thoughts?

Also, it seems like I'm getting a lot of RF interference... there's these nasty diagonal lines, but they mostly only show up on the lighter colors... and every once in a while, the screen will flicker... usually when I hear the HDD accessed, but not always.

BTW: I have an ISA HDD adapter, with the HDD outside the box, housed in a dataport I had laying around.

thoughts?

The quality of video on my setup is not as bad as your descriptions. On a 35" Mitsubishi(tube type), it's ok. There are TV settings which may help. If you have a setting called N.R. (noise reduction) turn it off. Then adjust the sharpness control....These setting changes made a world of difference in my setup. I can actually read text ok now.

I've got a 700-line television and am using s-video input, but the display skips lines at 800x600. Any idea why?
Can I use something like Powerstrip to tweak it to my Toshiba 32" display?

Uhh your "700 line" television still only uses 525 scan lines - it's called NTSC, and even then slightly less than 500 or so lines are actually going to be visibile due to verticle blanking and overscan.

You, sir, are a victim of marketing hype.
