In sports this is termed a "Make-Up Call"

That's odd, they had an ad for the IO couple weeks ago when each store had 30 back orders, and now they have ads for the WS when every store's sold out? They must love taking back orders, and loves to see the customer's disappointment. Whoever's in charge of their ads needs his/her mom to drag his/her ass back to grade school. CHECK THE INVENTORY BEFORE OFFERING IT, RETARD. There's going to be a lot of complaints if not a single store going to have one.

Not so fast! In the Sunday Chicago Tribune they published this correction:

Due to a manufacturer's technical issue, WebSurfer Pro (#271198) advertised on Page 10 of CompUSA's May 7th insert will not be available. We apologize for any inconvienience this may have caused our valued customers.

Ha, wouldn't they be a lot better off if they check the inventory first before posting the ad? Instead of having to apologize? Customers are already disappointed, seeing something they want, then later find out that it's not available.

The ads are generally drawn up well in advance - it would cost them a lot to redo the ads, whereas the "sorry 'bout that" blurb can be tacked on cheaply.

Adds of this type are drawn up 3-4 months in advance.
