WebSurfer Sound Card -> Stereo System

New MessageWebSurfer Sound Card -> Stereo System (modified 0 times) Brian
I (like many others I would assume) want to use my WebSurfer to play MP3s on my home stereo system. When I hooked my WebSurfer up to the receiver and played an mp3 the sound was very quiet. Even after turning the master and pcm volume up all the way in the mixer the sound is still a lot quieter than my cd player. I am using linux 2.2.15 with Xaudio to play the mp3s and my receiver is a Sony STR DB-830.

Thanks for any help

I can't find much info on your receiver, but where are you plugging the audio in? AUX may not have a pre-amp. Try using Phono if available.

The RCA audio out on the WSP is line level, so it will continue to sound like a weak pair of headphones until you run up the signal.

The DB series receivers were only sold for a limited time, they contain mostly extra ES series parts but they were not sold at an ES price. So I pretty much got an ES receiver for $400, but we're getting off topic. But you probably won't find much info on it.
I am hooking the WSP up to the front panel Video 3 input (for testing, I'll hook it up in the back later). I tried hooking it up to the CD input, the same one as my cd player is using and it was still quiet. I wouldn't hook any line level source up to the Phono input, the phono input is for a phonograph, and only a phonograph. It would probably sound bad hookup up to the phono input anyway.

So... does anyone else have their WSP hooked up to a stereo system here? It it more quiet than another source, such as a cd player? Or am I the only one with this problem?

Thanks, Brian

I have mine hooked up to my stereo. It's a Sony Audio/Video Control Center, has places for TV/Video/Tape/CD/5.1 Channel DVD and built in tuner. My WS is hooked into the TV input because it has L/R audio and video, sounds fine.
