Okay, so me and my friend went in to our local compusa and took 1 websurfer each. when we got to the register, it rang up for $199 before tax. so i showed him the print out of the webpage. Being a cashier, he then shows it to his manager. The manager looked as though hell frozed over, then disapppeared into his back office. 4 minutes later he came out, and okay the purcahse at $49.99. From this, i concluded that he called into head quarters, and they in turn okayed it. and this is after 2 or so days of people throughout the nation purchasing these products at $49.99, so there wasn't any mistake about it.

Anyhow.. when i got the okay, i quickly grabbed an additional 4 websurfers because that's all the cash i had on me. And from having heard how people are worried from having used their credit cards in the past with netpliance, i didnt' want to go with that route.

So you say, why the heck i need five?? well shoot, if i was so lucky.. my gf grabbed 1, i gave another to my boss okay.. that leaves me with just 3 right? well it's not over yet.. read on.

so, two hours later, i talked my friend into going to compusa and getting himself one. he had to meet up for a volley game, so he gave to me some $$$$ cash, and this time i brought my gf along.. and she was loaded, with credit cards... duhhhh..

anyhow, we went back to purchase the last 6 websurfers.. that were at least on the floor, because the rep said there were some more in the back room.

And to my suprise, they had put up a sign that said the advertised price on the webpage was a mistake. one of the cashier came running to me to tell me that i could no longer get it at that price because.. as he stated.. his manager called in after i left (didn't he call in the first time?) and then was told that the $49.99 was the price of the remote keyboard.

okay, so i figured.. i'm being screwed here, cause i know that isn't the price of the keyboard. the remote keyboard is $49.00, a free offer. And the advertised $49.99 for the websurfer was at more places than just at compusa website.

so we left, without anymore websurfers. i ended up giving to my boss another websurfer. so now i've ended up with just 2. and i think another friend of mine wants one. damnit. how did 5 end up to be 2?

anyhow.. when i came back to the bbs, i didn't see anyone having problems. i say, it wasn't my day. i even emailed the corporate site twice, and they didnt' respond to the email. their websurfer add ws still up at the compusa website. so the next day, i noticed that it's no longer there, and not just that, u couldn't even do a search for the websurfer. like as though it never existed.

i took digital pictures of me with the local posting letter of the websurfer add as being invalid. thought i'll send it to codeman so he can make me a star on his front page.

it has been one fun ride! whooho

Somebody probably saw the line printed on the box that described the wireless keyboard as "a $49.99 value" and assumed that's what the website price meant, and assumed it was a misprint.

Hello!

This is why I have no sympathy if Netpliance, CompUSA or Websurfer loose money. They all need to go to business school. I bought 2 WSP at CompUSA 2 days ago. Came up as $49, no TOS. Went back the next day, still $49 but must sign TOS. The Manager called Websurfer in Canada (luckily it was 5pm in California.) The CS rep was confused if you already had Earthlink you could choose option B and did not need to sign up. (this is obviously wrong).

They wanted name and number so the Websrfer manager could call next day. That's the way to run a business. A customer is ready to purchase your product. At the price specified, and you tell CompUSA to not sell it until the next day? Well everyone was so confused, they let us buy 4 at $49 no TOS. In fact they asked if they could have the TOS contracts back because they didn't have enough for the other units. LOL

I also have a problem with these companies trying to pull the "a fast one". This is the get 12 CDs for a penny con. It's not really a penny, but they figure they can get you in the door with that lie. Like wise the I-Opener isn't $99, and the Websurfer isn't $49. The only reason we are able to get these at the REAL advertised price is these companies are very poor business people.

And if Netpliance goes belly up, it won't be because of hackers, it will be because of poor understanding of running a business, with a minor in poor customer service.

And you can quote me on that!

I just walked in and purchased mine yesterday. The UPC code did not scan, but when they keyed in the number on the price tag, it rang up as $49.99... I used AMEX so I am not at all worried about them coming back to me on the price. AMEX is VERY supportive of their customers..
