Most of these are spoken for by friends and family, but I still have a pang in my heart for an I-Opener. Anybody want to trade a pristine IO for a Websurfer, I'll even do the IDE mod for you (I'll be doing 5 others, what's one more?) Post an address if interested.
I'm sure this late in the game this sounds like crap, but what can I say? Sometimes living in a behind the times state isn't so bad after all. I can barely believe it myself.

In Salt Lake City? There may be hope... Or maybe not anymore.
After my heartbreaking near miss at getting the last 2 pre-pay I-openers at Pheonix Metro Center (friend showed with my cash but found they had both been sold within the last 2 hours, DAMN!!!) I decided to try my luck for a Websurfer. I had printed the CompUSA ad before but then chucked it like an idiot I decided I wasn't interested, DOH! Thanks to Kinky's 50meg.com copy of the add (I love you man!!!), I was able to reprint it yesterday. I even edited the HTML to show the date current to 5/02 and printed another for emergency use only, since one call would prove me a liar. Turns out I didn't need the printout, or the bleeding heart story I had prepared about a 4 hour drive for Mother's day Presents.
Went to the Murray store first, last night just before closing. Looked around the place, saw an IO display, but no WebSurfers anywhere. Played dumb, looking for a WebTV thing... 2 sales guys had no clue, a third said "What about those Websurfers up on the back wall?" I looked up as a beam of light settled on about 15 of the gems perched up an a high shelf. I asked the sweet guy to let me look at one. In a second I had one in my hand, I was so astonished to even get to touch one this late in the game, I didn't stop him when he carried the ladder off. If I had planned ahead and took a cart back with me, I could have loaded up several. (The cart to make it less obvious what I had on the way to checkout.) I got the guy to come back, he got me a second one. Then the manager walked up. "What's that?" Man I almost cried. He said "Yeah we just got an E-mail a couple of days ago about these things. I have a form you have to fill out before we sell it to you, or else it is $200" I tried all the arguments, no luck. He insisted. "Fine, go get the form, I'll look it over and decide." He went off to his office to track one down. I walked up to the front (now 5 minutes after close) to a clerk who had no idea what we had been discussing in the back of the store. I set the two I had down. He rang them up, didn't scan at first, then punched some buttons and $49.99 came up. He totaled them, I whipped out the cash. He handed me a receipt. I looked around, the manager had not surfaced yet... So what the hell, I took my change and took my leave... I couldn't believe it! I don't think this store will be promising again unless you get one off the shelf, into a cart, avoid the managers eyes, and get to an uninformed checker. I'm sure the manager had a big talk with his people after he realized I'd stiffed him.
This morning at 9AM I hit the other SLC store (1830s 300w). Looked around forever, no signs, no display, no Websurfers in sight. I finally asked a stock guy. 'Any WebTV thingies?' He showed me a websurfer on display right next to an IO. No signs, no decriptions, no SKU number there, but YES!!! Right above it was a price marked $49.99! I had him bring me 3. They were stashed behind the upgrade counter (right behind the Zip disk display). I stowed them in my cart, and casually RAN to the checkout. Amazing, no manager types even looked interested. I almost fainted when the checkout girl pulled out all 3 onto her counter to scan them. Nobody even looked. No stickers on them, no TOS in sight. Didn't scan at first, but when they did it was $199. Thank heavens for the price on the display. She had to go look at it, then had a stock guy look it up, and it showed $49.99. I payed cash, then boogied. I was so jazzed. Sheer greed forced me to hit the nearest ATM and get enough for one more. All the people were in place, I knew it would be a cinch, and it was. "HaHa, my silly sister just called my cel and said she wanted one too!" <cheesy grin>. Two round trips, total 6 hours drive time, and $300 cash + tax and I now have 6 of them. If you are in the area, I suggest the SLC store, but they couldn't fit much more than 2 more in the space behind the counter. I must not be the only one who found this store a cinch...
