I am interested in hacking a WS for DSS emulation. I have a few questions.

1. Can 2 RS232 seriel ports be added?
2. Is there alot of room in the WS to add other stuff i.e. smart card programer?
3. How do you erase whats on a DOC and write to it?

The websurfer has one serial port and another one can be added with a little soldering. And yes there is a fair amount of room to add other stuff. The DOC can be worked on with utilities from Sandisk's website.

Are you sure about getting the DOC stuff from the Sandisk website? It might be just me being stupid, but I don't know. Sorry if I'm being dumb...I'm just interested in the same thing Chrismo16 is.

Sorry it is the m-systems site, but as starfish pointed out everything you need is here. My mind slipped a disk.

Absolutely you can add two serial ports to the ws. I have been using my WS for the last 3 months as an emu machine. I can use picture-in-picture to see both video and datastream.

Make sure you include file transfer software (ie Laplink} on the DOC so you can xfer new files to the WS when necessary.

I should have mentioned - it is a function of the TV (TV has multiple inputs)

There are some images of my setup at http://www.hackhuforums.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=14350

Can someone please cover the differences between the Websurfer and the Websurfer Pro models. Can the Websurfer be hacked?

Thanks, Bill

I've added the second serial chip and the header from my WS-MOD kit and all seems well. I am a bit confused about the extra surface mount chips that were included. The kit came with 6 resistor packs, a strip of two resistors, a single resisitor, and a strip of 8 chips. I know the resistor packs and the strip of two are for the IDE header and the single resistor is for the IDE LED. Are these extra 8 chips soldered to the 8 solder pads surrounding the serial header? I know that they are not "Required", but I might as well use them and at some point I might need to make a long serial cable run. I'd just like confirmation on the other strip of 8 chips. Thanks!
