Thanks for all of the support and help you have given the IO and now the WS.
It seems like you may be only 1 of a couple of people that has gotten an ISA(?) IDE controller to work in your 'surfer'. What type was it? It seems like everyone else who uses a 16bit (or PCI) IDE controller can have their drive auto detected, but will not boot. You can take that same combination in another system and it works just fine.
What type of controller did you use?
Did you try to boot with a 3.5 as well?
Does it have enough power to run an older 3.5 hd correctly?
What EXACTLY did you turn off in your BIOS?
