Worth it? I bought a full fledged one of these 3 years ago for $499 from Sun
Cost of machine

New MessageWorth it? I bought a full fledged one of these 3 years ago for $499 from Sun (modified 0 times) Trooper
This looks like the same machine I purchased 3 years ago from my local Sun Electronics for $499. I'm using it currently, came with 1 gig hard drive, TV out, 180 mhz Cyrix MediaGX, 8x CD-Rom, 33.6bps modem, and IDE on board. I like the MediaGX Processor, although it's rather slow and seems to be detected as a accelerated 486, and If I'm correct there is no solid support for sound under linux for the MediaGX processor, I have yet to get the sound working myself (any help?)

New MessageRE:Worth it? I bought a full fledged one of these 3 years ago for $499 from Sun (modified 0 times) guessing
This is just a guess, but I know that the websurfer used to be 486 based, but has been improved with a new motherboard in the last year or so. I think that the easiest way to tell the difference is to see if it has the older EDO Ram or the newer SDRAM. although I dont think that the speed of the mediaGXM chip will be terribly fast at 180 their are MediaGX chips that are up to 300MHZ out there if you can find them and that should be a good upgrade.
