Anyone have success with PCI IDE cards?
Need suggestions.

New MessageAnyone have success with PCI IDE cards? (modified 0 times) froo
A poster in the "minor probs" thread mentioned having problems with the Promise ultra ata controller (I'm assuming it's PCI). When I got home tonight with my WebSurfer, I tried using an old "Data Tech" PCI EIDE controller from way-back, and I couldn't get it to work. After disabling the on-board IDE, I could get the drive detected in the bios, but it would never boot. It wouldn't list any drives, and then it'd think for a minute or two before giving the disk boot error. A friend of mine bought a new PCI Ultra DMA/33 card today for his Websurfer, and got his drive recognized as D:, but never booted.

Have the rest of you had the same results? It sounds like I'm going to have to go out and get an ISA EIDE card, but I don't see why the PCI wouldn't work. Who out there has had success, and with which cards?

It BOOTED from PCI!!!

I took the abit hotrod66 out of the computer I am using now and it booted ther websurfer... It showed the windows98 splash screen and the bar stopped moving... probably detecting new hardware..

I removed the 16meg flashdisk first.. and it was still fine!!

I put in a Promise ultra DMA 66 PCI card. At first it wouldn't boot. I had to set my partition active and I had to pop out the DiskOnChip (It's socketed). After that it booted fine.
