Anyone have any idea on the power that comes out of the RCA jacks for audio? Im doubting it is amplified much but its going in my car, so im just curious. Also, anyone else already got there's in their car? Right now Im trying to tackle the whole actual connections between the WSP and the system. Im not at all a car audiophile, but a few friends have mentioned the fact that without using a headunit (I just want the WSP) I will have left-right balance adjust, but no fade controls. Anyone know much about that stuff? Thanks a bunch. Keep on hackin'

Without a car stereo head unit you will have some real problems. if you ran the audio from the RCA's to some amplifiers it would probably really make you upset that changing the volume would be a huge pain, (No knob to turn or simple buttons to push) No you will not have any fader controls, and your left right will be very coarse. If you were thinking of plugging speakers directly ito the WSP then you will have one of the quietest car stereo's on the planet. Secondly, you really need to do some audio shaping, your audio will probably suck directly out of the WSP because of the need to run it on an inverter. You can get around this by re-designing the power supply. (DO NOT PLUG car voltage into the 12 volt line.. your car doesnt run on 12 volts.. it actually runs between 17volts and 13.5volts with up to 200volt spikes) Your power supply will need serious filtering as car power is the dirtiest power available.. this is why there are power supply sections in car equipment that run's off of 12 volts. If you dont care if you smoke the WSP then plug it into the car's electrical system with a 7405 voltage regulator to get your 5volts. My autopc and several other automotive computer projects/platforms all have killer power filtering to get clean audio out of the unit (and video! try and get clean video when a damn $59.00 inverter is ploping hash marks on the screen!)

If you were thinking of just ploping this in your car and Voila mp3 car audio.... Sorry, it dont work that way.

Just a thought..
IF you can get a clean ntsc signal on an auto-mounted WP (big if), you could use a small active matrix TV as a display. Just use a custom skin with very large fonts, or some customized player and you might be able to see the controls and a few lines of mp3 files.

You may want to check out this guy's site it was posted in the IOpener forum but I don't know how many people looked into it at the time.

He's using a Palm Pilot attached by a cable to a serial port to control Winamp. You get Play, Pause, Stop, Volume and Playlist output to the screen. It uses a program called Busker you can find here

I'll probably go this route when I come into some money, can't afford a Palm Pilot right now.

This is slightly off-topic for this thread, but here goes: Has anybody performed the hardware hack to insert the mic, spk and line sockets on the system board, populated the passive components and got it to work?

When I looked at it, there were a few inductors and capacitors in addition to the sockets. Could somebody who has successfully performed the hack post the inductor/capacitor values and physical sizes? Where are the sound sockets available and what is the part number? Does the sound input work without further configuration?

Burning head: Hmm...Ive been finding out its more involved than I planned, but that's where the fun is. Any ideas on HOW to get that serious filtering? I havent the foggiest idea where to begin....
