Audio / Sound Problems. Winamp AND Win Media Player

New MessageAudio / Sound Problems. Winamp AND Win Media Player (modified 0 times) SteveInAZ
I have the Websurfer totally done except for one small problem : Sound errors

System Configuration:

Websurfer Pro (duh!)
128 meg ram
Promise EIDE Controller
WD 8.4 Gig

Now none of that should make a difference.

Then I installed the audio drivers in codeman's post. Thanks codeman!

However, I get the following error in Winamp:

MMSYSTEM002 A device ID has been used that is out of range for your system.

To further complicate matters, Windows Media Player won't play .wav files and produces this error:

Cannot play back the audio stream: no audio hardware is available, or the hardware is not responding.

I have gone to System Properties --> Devices Tabe, down to the sound applet, expanded it to XpressAudio and then gone to properties. Message: This device is working properly.

I consider myself pretty good with computers and installing sound drivers is a pretty darn easy task, but in this case I'm stumped.

Anybody have any ideas?

Thanks for your time

I had the same problem as you did. I managed to solve the problem by removing an item in the windows 98 system/device tab. I had a listing as an unknown multimedia device or something like that - it had a big ass yellow question mark next to it - THIS IS NOT THE PCI BRIDGE PROBLEM. I removed and then reinstalled sound drivers and no longer got that 002 message. Good luck.

Sounds like the messages I got when I disabled the internal sound in Bios setup (was using tv, couldn't see clearly and thought I was disabling the parallel port).
