I'm writing this post with my WebSurfer Pro through a 3rd party ISP without signing up. Here's how to do it... (pls. forgive the formatting of this message. the QNX kinda sux. 1) Change the DeviceID to something other than 0. the device ID can be found in the control panel (ctrl-alt-M pwd: f1n9eR). 2) Reboot 3) say yes when it asks if you are still callin' from the old number (0- i think) 4) uou'll get to choose from a blank list of providers -click the top box 5) then, you'll be in the main screen - get back into the control panel and put your ISP settings in the main screen. you may also want to go and change the URLs for the registration and upgrade servers 6) get out of the control panel and let it dial up if you get an error message saying something about forbidden, hit the red key to the right of the space bar that has a tv and an arrow on it-- it'll let you punch in a URL. sorry for any bad spelling, formatting, or if I forgot something. This WSP isn't the best way to write long messages, and I wrote this thing up from memory, cuz i'll prob. never connect with QNX again. keep on keepin' on -ChengDIgger

here was the original instructions that kinky posted after i posted the password (perhaps a little eazier to read).

From Kinky:

HACK TO USE WS WITH YOUR OWN ISP. NO HARDWARE CHANGES REQUIRED
===============================================================

Here are the steps to hack a virgin (as in unmodified) Websurfer to use your own ISP.

1. Connect everthing. Go through registration screen and provide information.
2. Be sure to choose "I'll use my own ISP" option.
3. In the next screen, enter all the ISP parameters. Set up atleast one user.
4. Now, hit Ctrl+Alt+M
5. In the pop-up box enter f1n9eR
6. You are in the Control Panel.
7. Change all *.websurfer.com URL in all the screens to something else (preferrably your own server, so that you'll know when the WS is trying to call home).
8. Go to the other settings screen
9. Change the Device ID from 0 to a non-zero number (e.g 1234). Save the settings.
10. Power off the WS and power back on.
11. You should now be past the registration screen.
12. Say YES to "Are you still using this number .... ?" question (if asked)
13. Choose a User, modify ISP settings if necessary and dial-out.

My bad for duplicating 'structions -- all my props and love to diverse and kinky. I tried to scan the list with the eye-bleedin'-blurry-fonting of the WSP on my late 80's sony, but I guess I missed kinky's post.

Has anyone tried using the hack above with a nic instead of the modem? I would like to be able to use with my cable modem.
