DVD working

New MessageDVD working (modified 0 times) spdracer5g
Last night I managed to get my pci slot working along with the ISA, and the card I just happened to be using to test with was a creative labs dxr2 dvd decoder card, well it was detetected, I wasnt even thinking about using it until it worked so for fun I shutdown and plugged in my creative dvd drive instead of the cd-rom I had been using and 10 minutes later was watching "three Kings". It is ugly, I guess you could route the ide, and power cables out the back of the box but that bare drive just doesnt cut it in the stereo cabinet.

Yes, please let us know what the output looked like with DVD.

I was thinking of building a 1.5" high enclosure to sit directly under the WSP to house a DVD-ROM and 3.5" HD. this will get my HD out of that crouded case and let me remove the fan I added behind the PS. I'll populate the onboard IDE to free a slot for a decoder while retaining my NIC.

I don't have a DVD-ROM or decoder yet, or I'd just plug it together and check myself.

Thanx

actually it looked good in a monitor, but for the tv I was using the composite (rca) out on the decoder card and it looked great, but for audio out I recomend using the WSP audio out the decoder card audio sounds really bad (too much hum).

what kind of ide controller were you using while watching the dvd. I have a dxr3 decoder I put in the websurfer along with a very old ide controller. The dvd played, but it was fairly choppy. I don't think its my RAM, because I have 80MB(and the card requires 16). I thought at first it may have been the cpu, so I overclocked it to 233(although creative says it only needs a p133). I didn't see any dvd performance difference though once I overclocked. Thats why I'm thinking perhaps its my ide controller.
