Will power supply work in France?

New MessageWill power supply work in France? (modified 0 times) Chuck
I am going to France for summer classes this year and I want to take my web surfer because its smaller than my 'real' computer and all I need to do is email and web stuff.

I know some (most?) power supples have no problem with the change from 110V 60Hz power we have in America to the 220V 50Hz power in france, they just need a plug adaptor. But I can't find any info about what sort of power the websurfer can handle. Will I need to buy a transformer or can I just get a plug adaptor? Please site the source of any info if you can find it.

Thanks,
Chuck

I believe the WS can take 220V no prob. Check manual.pdf on diversity's website on geocities.

Thanks, but I checked that one already. It makes no reference to what sort of power can go into the power supply. It only talks about what comes out.

well, someone pointed out that these were in use in germany before showing up in the states, so my guess would be that they would work unless they swapped out a different PS

Don't know about the power but if you plan to use the tv out be sure and check what tv standard they use there. We use NTSC in the states, I know they use PAL in the UK, and I'm pretty sure it's PAL for the rest of Europe. From what I understand from passing knowledge NTSC/PAL have different resolutions and refresh rates. There's a jumper on the board to change from NTSC to PAL if it turns out you have to

I'm sure France is Pal. You'll have to jumper it.

I thought that France was one of the few countries that used something other than NTSC/PAL. SECAM or something like that.

I thought SECAM died a long time ago?
It sucks and has terrible bleeding of red colors!

Just check out the power supply inside the box. There's a little label that says what power it will take. It's 100-240 volts, 50/60 Hz. That covers just about everywhere in the world including Japan which uses 100 volts.

Paulio, where did you see that sticker? I looked at the power supply earlier but I didn't see it. I'll have to take a much closer look when I go home tonight.

Thanks,
Chuck

Sounds like it has a "universal" power supply. These are common for small power supplies used on industrial rack-mount computers.

It was inside the box on the power supply - next to all the scary high voltage stuff, either on the circuit board or on one of its components. At least there was a sticker on mine. I'm not at home so I can't be more specific.
