QNX Free??

New MessageQNX Free?? (modified 0 times) Tony
I thought I read somewhere that QNX was going to be free for private use, cant find anything on it now though. If this is the case we need to look futher into this...Run the core QNX on the DOC and all our apps off the HD. I would love it if this thing would play Mp3s off another server and the browser had the latest plugins (shockwave, java, etc).

So, basically it appears that the free version of QNX is not available yet, but will be 'sometime in May' as a free download.

To me, it would appear that using QNX in that 16 MB DOC would be the perfect solution for a set-top MP3 player/living room browser. You could fit your OS with network and audio support, and some small apps (a feature-limited browser and an mp3 player) all on the Disk On Chip. You use your ISA/PCI slot for a NIC and you're good to go without any hardware hacks, except possibly using an IDE board temporarily to install the OS.

You should be able to fit just about anything you want on the DoC using QNX. The kernel starts at 32k. 16Mb should be enough to get an mp3 player, browser, net drivers, etc. on the thing. You might not even need an fs driver on the thing....
