PCI network card timeout/crash fix...

New MessagePCI network card timeout/crash fix... (modified 0 times) Stoney
After installing my intel pci 10/100 nic I had problems transfering large files, I tweaked software for hours, still would lockup hard when transfering large files. I am running windows 98 se with isa ide controller and pci nic, I finally booted into safe mode and went into device manager , removed all the motherboard resources and irq pci steering objects, also removed the 10/100 nic from the device manager. Then rebooted, it detected all the stuff again, but it left out IRQ PCI steering objects. I was then able to transfer huge files, transfered 3 gigs worth of data so far, I think I'll call it a sure fix cuz it used to crash after about 5 megs of data. It worked for me, so it very well may work for you all :) happy hacking... questions?? Stoneyy@budweiser.com

Well, I'm not really sure but make sure you check these.
If you have a 10/100 NIC and you know your network is running at 10 or 100 ... fix the setting, instead of using AUTO in the Network setting which is Window98 or 95 default. Also, if you are running on 10 and you already have another computer already on the network surfing the web or playing MP3, chances are your WSPro will not even get a chance to log on to the network, which will give you a fatal error during start-up ... that happened to me. I was playing VCD from my server onto the WSPro, then I turned on my other computer and it kept crashing. I figure out only when I stop playing the VCD, the network frees up and then allowing my third computer to log-on to the network, then it worked fine. The main problem here is if you are running on a 10 LAN, try working with your server and WSPro only first, then work on logging on other computers. 10 and 100 LAN do not mix well even if they are set to AUTO. Good Luck.
