websurfer software hackling
whats the holdup

New Messagewebsurfer software hackling (modified 0 times) done waitin
All of the recent finds an the websurfer site were great, they allowed us to hack around with the default QNX a little. A little.....

Doesn't anyone here have interest hacking QNX??? Why cant someone who is running linux just switch to the D drive and edit the damn photon or system initialization scrip? Just omit a couple of lines and it will boot to command prompt.
Once inside the registry you can change shortcut keys, screen resolution, add shortcut keys to your own added QNX programs (such as an qnx mp3 player) Basicly do anything you want.

This just seems more sensible to me than to put linux on the chip and trying to find drivers that work and support for sound and endless configuring.

Of course thats just me. I like hacking things apart and changing them rather than building from scratch.

This seems like it would be a simple hack.

1. reset the websurfer software
2. dump websurfer image
3. edit the script
3. dump the image again
4. create a patch by comparing the image file differences for those of us without linux
There is a lot of software that will make the compared difference patch automaticly for
distribution

Why dont I just do this myself you ask?
I'm not running Linux. dos and windows wont recognize the file system therein.

Since the disconchip is just that a "disk" it was inevitible that someone would find all of those files that were discovered on the website. we all have owned them from day one.

I had fun with the backdoor passwords for about an hour but I really want to get to the ROOT

I'm all for that too!

(Like a "me too!" post ever helps!?!) =P

But seriously, I have a similiar vision/goal/interest...

I hope someone with *nix skills greater than I can accomplish this feat and detail it on the board...

Enrico

Some stuff to share:

This system is using either QNX4 or QNX Neutrino. However you look at it, it's an RTOS embedded on that damn chip. Here's why you just can't mount the filesystem: When you build an embedded system in QNX, you get it just the way you want it and create an image. So now the FS is compressed somewhat. Then you put that on your DoC. Now, you want to put it on a million DoCs so you can sell these little boxes to all the hackers out there! SO... You put your QNX image on one, then use the GANG programmer to copy it to others. Guess what? Now it's stuck in another image file, the DoC's own format. Great. So until someone figures out how to reverse that and get QNX software to install on another box, we'll have to resort to other tactics. I'm working on what promises to be a large step in hacking your websurfer. I'll let everyone know if it works out...

do you work for the websurfer people???

what are you talking about you are confusing. The files that reside on the DOC are just that, files. Qnx doesn't run off of any kind of disk compression.
?????????
Did you read any of the documentation on the DOC. Like the developers guide. The doc distribution is made after the system has been created and put on the DOC. then using "getmimg" the entire chip is dumped in bianary form.
there is only one image regardless of how the OS is set up. that image that was dumped from the DOC.

Have you ever heard of an operating system that ran off of an image file???

I Sure havn't

I have dumped an dos setup that I had on the DOC it had a web browser mp3player and some n64 and arcade emulators. later I put the image I had made back onto the DOC and it was the same as the original. It was not an image once put back on the DOC.

Im not sure what you are talking about.
The qnx os is files and directories

why are you trying to discourage others from trying to hack QNX???

an an RTOS is just an operating system put on flash rom.
The DOC operates as any normal disk would. the only difference is that it loads it's own boot sequence, but that sequence is perfectly compatable with other os's and plug and play.

Someone hack the damn thing

I'm definitely NOT trying to discourage anyone... I've been trying to get some heads togther to work on this all along. What I'm saying is that the QNX setup on the DoC is set up as an image. Read the programmers documentation. It's for real. Your image isn't set up that way because its DOS. Go to their site (http://www.qnx.com) and read through the programmers manuals. And all those who are really interested in getting in LET ME KNOW! I've discovered tons of stuff about this OS and I've got plenty of ideas to work around photon and get a shell. Back on subject, once you dump a rom, look at it! You can't do anything with it except put it back on a DoC.

anyone interested in cracking this badboy let me know.

p.s. no I don't work for WS but I sorta feel like it for how much time I'm spending with this damn thing.
