Onboard NIC chipset
What is it...?

New MessageOnboard NIC chipset (modified 0 times) MoTLD
Hmm...

Several posters have theorized that the missing onboard NIC components include an Intel chipset, based on the features listing in the GCT manual. Oddly, however, the manual also states that the CD-ROM that goes with the unit includes Realtek 8139 drivers as well as those for the Intel 82558. Does anyone know the technical specs on these chips? Are they pin-compatible? The components could probably be scavenged from cheap or broken cards, except for the flat-packs themselves which would be rather difficult to desolder without damage. The RTL chip should be much cheaper than the Intel, so if they're interchangeable it might not be that costly to add the onboard NIC for those of us who would like to have 2 NICs.

Any ideas?
