TV out, is it just me(or my WS) or does it suck!

New MessageTV out, is it just me(or my WS) or does it suck! (modified 0 times) tanker
I finaly got the internal IDE working and tried it out on the TV (its been on a monitor till then) and the text is basicly unreadable. Making web surfing impossible.
Any one else have that problem? I know there was another thread on this but no real answers there. It looks great on a monitor but on my 32" Sony it sucks. Tried all the options availble to me with the TV utility that came with the chipset drivers. Also s-vid and composite.
My sole reason for the hack was to have web capability on my TV. Anyone with any input on this?
Thanks........

If you are looking at 80 column text, then yes it does suck. all computer that have ntsc out will suck, because your TV doesnt have the ability to display higher resolutions. (NOTE: if you have a $1500.00 tv it does in fact look great!) This is normal and expected. - It will be worse the cheaper your tv set gets. 99.9% of all current phillips tv's really really suck on graphics due to the extra crappy comb filter they used (Phillips is good at using crappy hardware) Svideo will look better, and at the top end, your vga input will look best (Mine has VGA in. <GRIN>)

If that is all true (and I have no reason to doubt you) then how can this thing be sold to the public? The average home user will not have VGA in on there TVs. This thing out of the box is is all but usless for web surfing on a TV. And that is its intended purpose!!!!
What a waist of my time, back to the IO I guess. :)

Keep in mind that using the original software (I hacked the control screen on mine and used it to connect to my normal ISP) it has modes that let you make the display larger and a 'magnifying glass' function on the keyboard that lets you make the section of the screen under the cursor even larger. Not that it is great, but it is very readable at the sacrifice of screen territory. Once you do the needed hacks to make it into a real computer, this software is gone. Their web browser is pretty bad too. All in all, I would not use it as it was intended. As an MP3 player, the tv will work just fine. (Incidentally - one of the Microsoft 'accessibility' tools not normally loaded when you install windows, is a magnifying glass - install this if you intend to use the TV as video)

Hmmmm NTSC TV Quality... next time a manufacturer's car commercial comes on, check out the small print, and tell me if you can read it....... the big name ad agencies use probably the best scan conversion, and TV just flat out sucks in general... S-Video is *slightly* better... your best bet is to up the font sizes... or navigate around from memory... hehe anyway... I don't mean to sound negative, but it doesn't get much better.
