Well, after many, many hours of working on it... I finally have the thing booting linux off the DOC, finding the ethernet card and playing MP3s over the network. The network card was probably the hardest part of the whole thing, since due to the bent pin in the riser card socket (see the topic Linux misidentifies PCI NICs for more info) Then they joyous problem of the machine freaking out anytime it tried to play sound, apparently the MPU401 is buggy (at least mine is and causes the interrupt to basically trip endlessly and put the machine into an infinite loop, finally just turned off that off in the Bios and boom. I did flash the bios, but dunno if it was necessary or not. Anyway, just wanted to post a my triumph

Congratulations!

You have to have a linux server to boot off of to do this, correct?

I think I got the same errors as you did, with the MPU401. I just ended up configuring it as a Sound Blaster Pro compatible, instead of a SB16 compatible. I tried changing between 0x330 and 0x300 in the bios, but didn't have any luck. Which bios option did you change to fix it?

I Changed the 0x330 to 'disabled' and all the problems with 'UART jabbering???' went away. As for the previous post about having a linux server to boot off of, actually I have everything i need in the DOC. I'm not running X so that saved alot of space If I wanted to I could just nfs mount /usr/X11R6 though (so I have an linux server that could serve stuff if needed, but I don't use it right now)

Was this done using the opensound drivers or the alsa-project drivers?

I guess this just shows what a useless forum this is these days. This must be the third time that I have asked someone to clarify something about audio for distros on the DOC, and still no one responds.

Is anyone even watching anymore?

Everyone is too busy playing on their WS's that they don't have time to type

Hey guys, just to get this back up at the top of the list, wanted to let everyone know that I got in touch with Rowat and he's helping me get the image of his DOC install working. Once I do I'll post up the complete directions and some images. Be aware though, this is NOT as straightforward as putting Jailbait onto the I-Opener's Sansdisk due to the drivers work with the DOC. Also, you WILL have to create your own Kernal with the DOC drivers. Sorry, the licensing doesn't allow me to post an image with those embedded. Besides, everyone will need slightly different Kernal options based on different network cards and such anyhow.

Give me a week or two to get it all up and working and to replace a couple things. (Rowat didn't know about BusyBox or TinyLogin or BlackBox so I'm gonna try to get those in and clean some stuff up first.) Just hang tight guys. Help IS coming.

Here's a link to instructions to get linux on the DOC. I haven't tried it yet, but I plan to this weekend. The main website has a lot of info.

Hope this helps.
