How do you get PCI IDE Controller to work??

I've seen people posting that they got their PCI IDE controller working, but how? Can you please post all the information on your BIOS and all hardware modifications you've done? I've tried everything but it simply doesn't work. I'm using a generic IDE controller which works perfectly on my desktop and I use a 2.5 IBM HDD.

Add me to the list. At this point I've used 2 different PCI SCSI cards, 1 ISA SCSI card, and I even bought an SIIG Ultra 33 PCI controller (which does not support boot from CD )
Anyway, I still have to see some booting action. The ultra controller sees my 2.5 IBM drive (I installed Linux on it) but won't start. Rats.

Apparently you may have to do some switching on the board. Check your IDE card manual and posts by froo in this forum.

Switch? No, my IDE controller has no switches or jumpers whatsoever, just 2 IDE slots. The only jumpers on this connection are those on the 2.5 inch HDD. This is tough, but what's the fun without challenge (But challenges that can be overcome though)!

I had a lot of trouble with two different PCI controllers until I reflashed the BIOS (see thread FIX! - For using PCI...) with the newer OEM version.

But if you are determined to stick with the old BIOS (which you may need to until you can boot!), I did get the cards to boot eventually and they worked fine in DOS and Windows 9x but did not work properly in Win2k. To get them to boot I disabled the onboard Primary IDE, and went into PNP configuration and changed the PNP OS to No, changed the PNP configuration to manual, and restricted all the IRQs over 8 to legacy ISA only. Someone elesewhere on here said there was a problem using high IRQs. It worked for me, although I can't say why.

I'm seeing people now talking more about heat sinks and fans. Have most of you guys suceeded with the IDE controllers? I've heard many success with ISA IDE controllers, but has anyone successed well with the PCI IDE controller? I'm still stuck even after changing the IRQ after the 8th to legacy ISA ... anymore hints on working a PCI IDE Controllers?
