Can't make any connection!
LAN woes, please help.

New MessageCan't make any connection! (modified 0 times) DarkKobold
I've been searching the board, looking for help on this, but haven't found anything. Tried many configurations of my own. So, I've decided to face the inevitable flaming, and post my question.

I have a XirCom pocket Ethernet 3 adapter that plugs into a printer port. According to winblows 98, it is installed and working fine. However, when I try and view network neighborhood, It says that I need to login. I have client for microsoft networks installed, yet whenever I try to log off and log on, It gives me the "Enter a password for windows" as appose to the "enter a password to login on to the network" I have the same configuration running on my desktop, and it is working just fine... I swear I've tried nearly everything, so any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

If you try to browse Network Neighborhood does it say "The network is unavailable, try reading the help files blah blah"?
I always have tons of problems getting the network up initially but once it's up it's no problem.

Try removing everything in your network config, including the driver for the network adapter, reboot, and add it all over again.

Oh yeah, did you enable the parallel port in the BIOS?

The BIOS just may not support the parallel port...

Try This:
LOG OUT!
Goto Start, Log Off Blah, Blah, Re-Login as default if it gives you a log on window. Trust me, IT WORKS!!!
YOU HAVE JUST BEEN FLAMMED!

Gondola - Thank you for your help. I actually have an ISA card with a printer port attached, and windows says that it reads it. Hopefully, this is just a winblows problem, not a bios problem.

ms - I obviously already tried that. so your flame means nothing.

Start->settings->control panel->network. Where it says "Primary Network Login", change it from "windows login" to "client for microsoft networks"
