well, i went ahead and did it anyways. It worked fine. Instead of sodering the ps to the old switch, i just removed it and install the one that was on the ps. powers up fine. Expept that when i attach a hdd to one of the ports off of the power supply, it doesnt get power... any ideas?

If you did all that, I am sure you checked for +5 +12 on the hard drive connector. if the WS is getting power so should the drive. Are you saying the WS shuts down too? I hope you checked all the voltages and matched them up just like the WS power supply, like -12V

Nope, the ws powers up fine and goes into the activation tutorial. The hdd never gets any power from what i can tell, none of the usual noises of it spinning or whatnot. I have used it in another old computer up to today and it workes fine. I dont know if its from a bad isa/ide adapter, but if it is, i dont see why that would prevent it from getting power.

1. how did you do this without a DVM?
2. do you have a DVM?
3. why haven't you measured the power to the drive?
4. why am I wasting my time?
5. did you try the drive in another computer without IDE hooked up?
6. did it spin there?
7. with r-shack selling DVM's for $10 why don't you have one?
8. are you back from r-shack yet?
9. what do you mean you haven't left yet?
