Is Hacking on the QNX Dead?

New MessageIs Hacking on the QNX Dead? (modified 0 times) Tony
Ok after playing with Win 98 and Linux on this thing, I am tired of looking at lil bitty text. I know most of us are using the D-Link USB network adapter. There should be a way for us to write drivers for qnx for these things, and use the orginal software, to use this thing what it is most useful for...surf the web... after being on a cable modem for years, I cant deal with dial-up speeds, so anyone wanna help me research this project....

I think that the software developement package for QNX costs over a grand.

Actually,
It will be (is?) available for no cost soon.

I think what the original poster is looking for (myself as well..)
is a way to the QNX shell/CLI

There's been great progress in that someone has found the pwd to the original software's control panel... but nary a soul has gotten to any sort of command prompt...

IF anyone has made any progress, I'd be intersted to hear about it...

seems like activity on this board is slowing down quite a bit...

The operating sytem will be free for download. The software developement package (Watcom Compiler) if I remember coreectly is expensive.

This board has slowed way down. Does anyone know if the WS is running Neutrino or QNX4??? I think I found access to the complier. (wink), I just need to download some of the other drivers so I can compare source code, to try to write the USB driver...

I am new to this, but willing to try to learn, I also have some experienced people locally I can refer to...

But are these drivers for the USB to Ethernet adapters that are out there. I started the thread in intrest of gettin the Dlink USB adapter to work with the qnx software to surf the web. In other words, go through my NAT server(cable modem), and surf the web using the orginal software. Win98 and Linux sucks, because you cant read the text, and I cant stand the dial-up speeds, nor do I like tying up my phone line.

It's running Neutrino w/ Photon. There's a terminal prog called "pterm" but it's anyone's guess how to actually execute it. If you look at the registry file (i think its in the boot-upgrade-ntsc package) you'll see how different commands are mapped to different key strokes. If we could figure out away to edit that registry we could do anything. I had an idea... Sounds tough, though. We could try to duplicate the WS update site on a webserver and make our own registry updates that would enable all the features we want - like a shell/term. If anyone wants to try this let me know. I mean, the update's gotta be just a couple of small files. A new ASCII registry file, a small browser update. How many couch potato mfers you think would wait to d/l a 16mb image over the 56k modem? Not gonna happen. So let's figure out how to do this!!!!

I am very interested in this idea, but I am new to programing in general. I would like to help in however I can. I can also provide webspace for beta testing the dls.

Just bringing this thread back up to the top. Been out of the scene forever, but I'm back and I'm gonna figure out how to get that terminal program up and running and get root on this damn thing. Anyone made any sort of progress towards this? I've got QNX4 running, so it's time to hit this problem from a new angle. Any one that's interested, let me know.
