I was wondering if the Promise Ultra66 problem that causes the computer to lock up when audio is played has been solved??

I fiddled with the Ultra66 for a long time. Supposedly, someone on this board was able to get the two working under windows 95 OSR2, but I didn't have any luck with that. What I *was* able to do though, and you might want to try this, was disabling all windows sounds. Windows would then boot and I could play music through WinAmp, but the sound was distorted. Try that Mr. Pute, and see if it does the same for you.

I've been trying to use my WebSurfer for an answering machine application, and I'm running into all kinds of problems that appear to be centered around the audio.
I can't use the serial port and play audio, for example. It gets all choked up, stutters, and sometimes crashes. This isn't a CPU loading problem.
There are no interrupt conflicts or anything obvious.
I'm starting to think the audio design or drivers just suck ass.
