Modem PCI is not working
I can't get A PCI modem to work

New MessageModem PCI is not working (modified 0 times) Yo...
The websurfer has been playing mp3s for weeks now in the entertainment center. I've installed Win95a, Win98SE, and WinME. The best results came from Win98SE with 16 megs of ram, some cheap DTC isa ide controller, and a maxtor gig drive with winamp and Whiteface a winamp plugin playing perfectly.

But now I want to surf the web.
I swapped the original isa modem for a pci modem. Windows installed the Supramax pci modem and diagnosed it in the control panel under modem correctly.

The problem is when Windows dials-up I get a message "No dialtone... Please connect a phone line". I can get the pci modem to work fine in any pc I have except for the websurfer. I tried all of windows o/s with no success.

I know it has to be something with the bios....
I want to flash the bios but my boy key_5000 says it's a no go.

Has anyone else had luck installing a pci modem, if so what did u do?

Some people had troubles with their pci ide controllers not working, so I'm figuring the websurfer bios can't handle a shared pci slot with my isa ide.

Myself I can get a 10 gig drive dirt cheap... so I don't want to setup a network.

Here's the modem I used with Win98SE, ISA ide card and DOC in and it worked fine:

Results with a bios flash using <newbios.bin> worked perfectly.
Now I have usb support along with a working modem at 44k, not bad for a winmodem.

In the Bios, the pnp o/s is set to manual with all irqs above 10 set to legacy. I have the modem set on irq #3 in Windows.

I did a brief test for 8 hours of non-stop downloading about 100 megs of mp3s with everything going perfect.

The factory bios must have had some type of block on the pci slot. With the newbios.bin everything functions great. If your wondering why your pci controller or pci anything doesn't work try to flash your bios via a isa ide controller with the newbios.bin

This mp3 player with internet access will be going into my truck. Being I have free weekend calling on the cellular phone, I will be able to access the web anywhere anytime.
