On-board NIC... 100BaseT FD and counting!!
It's up and running!

New MessageOn-board NIC... 100BaseT FD and counting!! (modified 0 times) gr8_brit
Well... Drum roll please....

I finally figured it out. All the info for the on-board NIC configuration is resolved and posted for everyones pleasure.

Check out gr8_brit

I've posted parts lists, some (rough!) pictures, the software you need, and the steps to make it all happen.

It's been challenging (as well as rewarding)

Sorry to you Linux guys, but at present it needs DOS to setup the Serial EEprom, but after that ... you get the drift.

I might consider making kits available to all if the numbers look right. I don't think I'm the only one who wanted this working? Or am I ?

Best of British!

Great news! Thanks!
So where did you get U7 and U4, the QFP and the transformer?

Good Work!

Nice hack! I would be willing to pay $20 for a kit with U4, U5, U7, U8, i.e. the 82258, transformer, oscillator and serial EEPROM. I can put together a kit of the remaining parts for $10 if there's interest.

Photon:

The Pulse Engineering Transformer is distributed by Capso (and others) www.capsco.com
The Intel SB82558B is stocked by DelaireUSA www.delaireusa.com

Linuxguru:

What are you smoking???

The Pulse Transformer is about $6.00 one off
The Ethernet Chip is about $45 one off

If you can get it for $20 (with the crystal and the EEprom) then let me know!!! Sheesh! ... what a muppet!!

Uwiz:

Check out the official BeOS page regarding supported network devices here as well as reports from the unofficial page here

The on-board NIC becomes the same as an Intel EtherExpress PRO/100+

Gimmie Gimmie.

I'll take two! Yes, it'll probably cost $75.00. Yes, it'll take 3 weeks for my Surface mount tech friend to do my two units (He still has them for the IDE mod.) ans Yes, the stuff will probably just burst into flames.. but I want it.

so I'll take at least 1. 2 if you really need to make an order fit.

Fellas,
If you guys have access to de-soldering equiptment, go here to get your 82558B chip and possibly all the needed components:

I won an earlier dutch auction from same guy. You can't beat 8.99 with a stick.

Just thought I'd pass along the info (no, i'm not his friend)

I posted this in the Technical Info Reference section, but wasn't sure if anyone is interested. Found the same thread here, so here goes:

Thanks gr8_bit for the excellent information on adding the Ethernet port! I'm interestedin doing this mod to my Websurfer, but need the parts. Most places that supply the 82558 chip are quoting $44 ($100 minimum order). I've been talking to Jack at badflash.com about getting a supply of these parts. He says that if there is enough interest, he'd be glad to make up some kits for us. He can get the 82558 significantly cheaper (approx half the price quoted above) but in quantities of 25. SOOO if there's enough interest in doing this, he said that he would make up kits. Is there enough interest? I know I am!
