Super Hard Drive Controller Board
ISA controller board with Everything else!

New MessageSuper Hard Drive Controller Board (modified 0 times) ckbone
Take a look at this ISA coltroller board. In addition to being a hard drive controller, it also has packed onto the card, a socket seven port, a LAN port, 2meg video card, 2 memory slots, usb, ps2, printer port header and more. This could turn the surfer into a full-fledged computer. The possibilities are endless. The price? http://www.inside-usa.com/products/686lcd_p.htm

Super hard drive controller my ass. What you are refering to is called a SBC (Single Board Computer). In order to make it work, you need a special case that includes a backplane to provide expansion slots and a way of getting +5V to the onboard DC-DC power supply. Not to mention these things also cost from $200-up depending on the specs of the board you want. Besides, everything that is on this SBC is also already included on a WSP if you choose to enable everything through hacking.

Well...The thing's at least 2 years old, outdated technology with p233 max, never was in high demand anyway......you might be able to pick one up cheap. It uses one ISA slot which the Surfer has, and of course there is internal 5v already available. It has a hard drive controler on it in addition to a 2 meg video card. You have a small footprint case (the Surfers) in which this would fit. It doesn't appear to need a special case..back plane...or whatever. Its specs exceed anything the Surfer can do, even with massive hacking. So if anyone can find one, I'm interested.

mr Bone, I believe you are missing the point here.. after working with SBC's for some time, I can assure you that most ISA busses do not supply +5vdc (or +12vdc for that matter) with sufficient current to drive that board. A special rackmount case (some desktops are available, but not too many) and backplane (ie: a pseudo mb with only ISA connectors, and power supply connectors) to make it work. Installing such a device in a wsp would be self defeating. That, and it would overheat the case quickly, and draw way too much power.

Cheers, Vector

That card is not a controller card, it is a passive-backplane ISA SBC (Single Board Computer). It's widely used in rack-mount and other industrial computers, but if you plug it into the websurfer's ISA slot, you will fry one or both. Hint: the ISA bus is not SMP capable and bus mastering was never really implemented correctly or completely on ISA.
