where can i get a replacement doc?
Where is a good place to buy DOC products

New Messagewhere can i get a replacement doc? (modified 0 times) hoyter
Does anybody know a good place to buy M-Sys DiskOnChip products? I think I have a DOA pci ide controller. I was popping out the DOC to see if it was conflicting with pci ide controller and I bent a pin the DOC really bad as it came out. When I straightened, it broke off.

The ide controller is a DTC 2130S, anybody have any experience with one of these?

thanks in advance,

Mike

A broken pin is not the end of the DOC. Try soldering a piece of resistor lead to the broken pin. Any solid core wire the same diameter as the DOC pins should work. Then carefully reinsert the DOC.

I have seriously considered this. My worry is that if the pin breaks off in the socket down the road I am really screwed.

I have one I would sell you.

I had a Web Surfer, played with it for a few days, but accidently left the DOC out of it when I returned it.

Interested?

Might want to try to fix it first. Ive seen them at one place for about $70. Ill have to
dig up the address at home if you want to get one.

If the repair job doesnt break then your head $70. The fix is free. I dont understand your logic.

modification of what TTN2 says:

buy a brand new 32 pin socket (about $2 or less). Then insert the busted DOC into the new socket. Then solder the pin between the DOC and the new socket.

Then insert the new socket/DOC assembly into the MB.

(An old engineering trick!)

Saves $68 and means the unit is removeable again if you need too without damaging the DOC.

If you do decide to purchase my DOC, it WILL be a LOT less then the $70. Already has the software on it and everything (naturally). Maybe $30.

Peace.

I fixed it the way gr8_bit suggested. I took it to a work and hardware buddy of mine did exactly that. He had be go buy a new socket, soldered the broken pin to the new socket and I am back in action.

thanks!
