Linux Framebuffer support for 640x400x32K (modified 0 times)

Has anyone figured out a better VESA mode than 0x300 (640x400x256) for use with X on a television? I would like to keep 640x400 but get a 16bit depth. I am using mode 0x311 (640x480x32K) currently, but the tv xlation drops every couple of lines and is hard to read 12pt text.
I have spent quite a bit of time cruising the net trying to find specs on that media gx video, but havent found a document anywhere that suggests what their Vesa 2.0 mode number would be for 640x400x32K. Is there another way to obtain this resolution / color-depth with X?

So you have gotten 640x400? I don't see why we can't get a great resolution...does anyone know what the graphical Mandrake install uses as its resolution? Because that works fullscreen and is perfect, nothing is cut off.

I'd like to go to 640x400 in Windows 98... The dropped lines also irritate me. Not sure why my 500-line tv drops lines, though.
Any ideas?
