Blown [grd 12v grd] in both places

New MessageBlown [grd 12v grd] in both places (modified 0 times) UNIXguru
Hello there here is my problem:

Heres the scoop, my websurfer was running really hot because of my HDD, so I took a fan out of a power supply and hooked it up to the [grd 12v grd] near the power suppy and it was running fine so I decided to hard wire it up and I got a spark and smelled something like plastic burning for a second. Then after that it didn't work. So I then tried the [grd 12v grd] that the processor fan was hooked up to and nothing, then after, the processor fan doesn't work. So now niether spot on the board works, everything else, except for the two [grd 12v grd] spots work. I tried both fans on another WS and they work. It must be the board I think, and guesses of to what happened? Any way to fix? Thanks.

If I did permently f*ck my board then I will have to resort to a fan that uses the 4 prong plug like HDDs and CD-ROMs use... Ahh well.

Sounds like you blew big-time. The power supply fan you were using perhaps drew too much current for that circuit. I had a small cpu fan wired that way, successfully, for a few weeks. I have now hard-wired the two extra small fans I'm using, directly to the power supply wiring.....much less chance of any problems this way....besides, you can replace the P/S fuse if it blows.
