Network connection is lost during audio playback.
Microsoft client loses it's file shares over netbeui during audio playback.

Just finished my Websurfer last night, here's the specs:

Newbios.bin flashed in. 3com 3C905 PCI ethernet. ISA EIDE controller. 2Gig 2.5". CPU at 200Mhz, 80Meg RAM. Win98Se

I have it networked to my desktop machine using the Netbeui protocol. My desktop computer has TCP/ip and Netbeui loaded. It talks to the net through my cable modem, and to the surfers shared HD via netbeui.
The problem is that the shared folder on the surfer will become unavailable if it's playing audio during a network access. As long as no audio is played, the net connection will be solid for hours.
Has anybody else seen this behaviour and come up with a solution?

My 2 cents: Sounds like a cpu overload prob....Why don't you o/c to 233 or 266 using the on-board switches. Bumping mine to 233 solved some of my problems. Watch out for heat problems doing this, however. I added two small case fans.

I am running it at 233 currently, and the buss is set to 33. During networking operations, I hear a lot of clicks and pops from the audio, that usually means it's about to lose the network connection.

Ok, I got it working finally. It seems that the USB, even though it's using unique resources, causes timing problems with the PCI NIC. Upon disabeling the USB in cmos, no more network problems. Something for all of you to take note of.

BTW, I am sitting back on my couch while writing this using the TV. The websurfer is networked from it's new home in my entertainment center. This is nice, listening to a shoutcast stream through the stereo while browsing all at cable speeds and from the couch. I might gain some weight now....
