So we all know that the original websurfer
was made by gct allwell. GCT Allwell still make boxes, and these boxes take Linux
well.
My problem is very poor sound quality when
using "esd", the Linux Enhanced Sound Daemon.
I get tinny sound, as if the speaker is torn,
and a high pitched whine, as if from a car
alternator. Not, it's none of these, because
if I use the same audio equipment on a different computer it sounds fine.
The GCT 3036 uses the same sound chip as
the original websurfer: the cyrix/national
CS5530, coupled to the LM4548 CODEC
I'm using the SB16 driver. If I use it by
itself, without esd, it sounds much better,
but still not as good as a different computer.
Finally, I have two different GCT Allwell
boxes and they both exhibit the same problem.
