WebSurfer / Wireless NIC Question

Hey all, first off, that gawd for this forum. You folks are great. I have been browsing around here for the last few months with regards to my i-opener, websurfer, and acer-nt150. You guys are the best source of info I have seen. Congrats!

My question is as follows. I picked up my WebSurfer a couple weeks ago, added a 20GB IBM 2.5" hard drive, got it all installed with Win98. Works great. I have a 3COM 11MB Wireless network I run here at the house with my laptops and I got the I-Opener to run one of the adapters. Seems that I can't get the WebSurfer to work correctly with the wireless NIC.

I wanted to use the onboard ide controller but for some reason, it would not work, I soldered in the pins CAREFULLY and it all looks great but NO GO, so I slapped in an ISA IDE controller. Below that I installed the PCI 3COM wireless nic. Win98 detects the NIC but when you reboot it starts to load and then just reboots.

I go into device manager and I have ?'s next to PCI Bridge and PCI MultiMedia Audio Device. The PCI Bridge has me concerned as to why the NIC isn't working but I can't find any drivers for this damn thing.

Can anyone shed some light with regards to a correct driver set and with regards to if you can use the ISA and PCI slots together at the same time with original bios? Also, where can I find drivers for the video to get more then 16 colors.

Mucho thanks folks. You guys are great.

J

I have Internal IDE Working. You Don't Mention The Needed Resistors.

I haven't done any PCI Cards, But I am sure others say You Must Flash The BIOS.

Good Luck ! * StarFish *

I just posted a link to a set of drivers a day or two ago, that should cear your pci bridge problem! I haven't tried any pci cards in the WS that I have been working on for the last few days, but I am using a bios that generally isnt available anyway, so whether or not the pci slot will work on mine wouldnt help most here anyway. (I will probably make this available to all once I test it a little more, I didn't write it or anything, I got it from a source that I can't reveal quite yet!)

Sorry I forgot to put in the links.

The IGS driver is for video, the GXm driver is for the sound etc, and is the one that will clear up your pci bridge prob. I recommend trying the video driver if you use this on a TV it seemed to make the display on mine a bit better than the other driver that has been available.

As usual any feedback on how these drivers work for you would be helpful.

Hey thanks for the help. Going to install the drivers right now. WIll post a followup as to the PCI stuff when all is done! I was wondering about the video as well, it looked like garbage with the original driver, hopefully the driver you posted will help.... :)
