| I found that the Phobos P430 4-port 10/100 NIC (available locally in the Bay Area on closeout for $29.95) fits cleanly in the PCI slot of the Websurfer, making it a good candidate for the Linux Router Project (LRP). This has four DEC/Intel 21143 MAC chips and a PCI bridge on one 2/3 length PCI card, sharing *one* interrupt, but with *four* separate MAC addresses. Just perfect for OpenBSD or Linux!
I installed it on a desktop with Mandrake Linux 8.1, and the Tulip driver had no difficulty in finding and configuring four interfaces, eth0..eth3.
I'm not sure why it's being closed out, since this is a very high quality card, with multi-layer PCB, Intel bridge, Intel MAC chips, Level One Phys, LED indicators, etc. (a networking startup probably imploded and unloaded all its inventory). | |
