Current Running Through The Case
Danger Will Robinson! Danger! Or, shut up Bishop.

New MessageCurrent Running Through The Case (modified 0 times) Bishop
There have been some comments about current running through the case, I don't have a voltmeter so I can't check it. It looks like the power supply is grounded out to the case, I don't see any other connections touching the case anywhere. If there is a current going through, is it enough to screw up a drive? Will it go through my HD bracket and fry my drive? Thanks in advance.

Yes I tried using a multimeter to test for resistance. I connected one probe to the power supply ground, and the other one I probed all over the place and the damn thing beeps on every piece of metal it touched. Tried probing the ground pin on the AC cord (plugged into the Websurfer), and to my surprise, it doesn't beep, which implies that the current is grounded on the chassis.

So, will this adversely affect a hd if it's chassis is in contact with the WS case?

The WS is grounded to the chasis, as are most/all PCs. Observe the green wire from the power supply being connected directly to the chasis, that is the ground wire.

To answer your question, everything is grounded to the case, which is grounded to the power supply, which is grounded to ground in your power outlet. To not do this would create floating grounds which can be damaging to electronics as well as your body.

... which is grounded to my HD case via metal bracket. No Problems works great.

There is NO current running through the case. There is an obvious ground wire screwed to the metal case from the 3 prong power connector. THEREFORE the case is at earth ground (Unless your house wiring is really screwed up) and has no current running through it. No current, nada, zippo, ZERO!

PLEASE... check with common knowlege before posting, this would have never recieved a UL rating if it had a hot chassi.

hmmm... than the question is this... i can see the case is grouded to the ps and all that.
But if i remove my shoes and touch the metal case while its powered i get a shock.
i get this with two completely different websurfers at two completey different houses in two completely different areas. Id say something is wired wrong... the question is what?
