Internal IDE Connector Boot BIOS Settings

New MessageInternal IDE Connector Boot BIOS Settings (modified 0 times) Beans
I have installed the internal 40pin IDE header, 2 1k ohm resistors, and jumpered accross the 6 resistor networks.

I have 2.5" inch drive formated FAT 32 and sys'd. I made sure it is bootable in my main computer.

My websurfer can autodetect the drive when I connect it to the internal connector. It shows up as master or slave, depending on the jumper settings on the drive.

The DiskOnChip is removed from my machine.

The best I have been able to do, as far as booting goes, is a black screen with a blinking cursor.

I figure the problem must be with my BIOS settings, but I have tried multiple settings (changing one at a time and saving and checking the results: anything to do with the IDE controller).

I have also tried it with the DiskOnChip to see if that would yield better results. No Luck.

If anyone can help I would really appreciate it!

Thanks,
Beans.

How long was your IDE cable? You might neeed the resistor network after all. They are used as series termination resistors. If you don't need your printer port, you can steal the 4 resistor networks from the printer port. They have a marking of 330. You might also want to try a shorter cable.

But the BIOS can see and correctly detect the hard drive. It seems that if your theory is correct, then it wouldn't be able to do this.

I am using a standard HD cable. My drive is less than 6" from the header.

Update:
I am able to get the Websurfer to boot with this drive using an ISA IDE controller card, and setting the BIOS appropriately.

I really would like to use the onboard controller though and free up the ISA slot for Ethernet.

Update:
I just found out that the onboard controller is detecting bogus drive info. I compared it to the ISA IDE controller detection information and it didn't match.

Well, to conclude this one man thread...

I found a bad solder joint in my re-work.

I fixed it and it boots.

Sorry for the noise.

Can you give more details on how you bridged the resistor networks. What you used to actualy "bridge" them with, ect. If you have the time the more details the better. You may be able to save someone (myself included) some time and troubles!
Thanks........
