WARNING: HIGH VOLTAGE inside 80VDC !!

New MessageWARNING: HIGH VOLTAGE inside 80VDC !! (modified 0 times) hardware1
Pull the power cord before probing around!

The heatsink in the center of the power supply board has about -78V and it's DC. The amperage is unknown but 80V at 2A (fuse) would hurt a bit!

It might just kill you!

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

You can't let go! Heart "zap" machines use DC !

For those of you who don't understand this, DC at high enough voltage and the right situation will cause your mussles to contract and stay that way.

I placed one of those zip lock freezer bags over the power supply while I was probing power connections. They are thick and non conductive.

You have no need to be probing around in there with the power on!

The 110V switch cables are better insulated, but why take the chance? Pull the plug!

PLEASE BE CAREFUL!

The larger heat sink off to the side of the power supply is grounded. The one I am talking about is the one that is almost centered within the board.

and if you ever want to check if something is 'live' use the BACK side of your fingers/hand...

if ya get shocked your muscles contract and you pull away...and cuss...(electrition showed me this on live house box )

a meter is a much less painfull way to do it....

Just thought I'd bring this thread back up to the top for those of us who didn't think the WebSurfer Pro was worthwhile until it became $49 :)

There will be 155 Volts DC on some sections of the power supply, the mains input is recified and smoothed.
Your lucky your mains is only 110v, the 240 v mains here in the UK gives 340v DC, i've put my fingers across that a few times, tends to burn little holes in your fingers.
A suitable cardboard box fitted over the psu would be a good idea.

Gave myself a good shock today, had read the warning, but I guess I misunderstood what heat sink you were referring to. I was pluggin in the power cord (unit turned off of course, but my power strip was on and I didn't realize that. Coupled with the fact that the leads/powersupply heat sink directly inside where you plug the power cord in are live, even with the unit off, I got a real good lesson in electic current. Fortunately it was a lesson with no real consequences.

SO PLEASE BE CAREFUL

Since most people with these also have i-openers, I want to warn people about touching the circuit board of the i-opener up by the IDE connector. I touched something today as I reached around to move the machine away from some stuff it was leaning against. Felt it through my whole upper body and burned a hole in my middle finger on my right hand! I could smell it for half an hour!
